How to Book

We have both self-drive tours and tours with transportation available. Select the button for the corresponding tour of your choice.

Self-drive: For a self drive tour, you will drive yourself to the start of the tour. You do not need a 4 wheel drive vehicle for this option all of the roads are paved and easy to drive on. You will come across some potholes along the way but nothing that requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle.

Tour with Transportation Included: With transportation included, our driver will pick you up at your location, take you to the tour start, wait for you, and bring you back to your accommodation. We can also make a stop along the way for souvenirs or food during the ride.

Rio Negro Hot Springs Tour Overview

Hours of Operation

Rio Negro Hot Springs is open every day, from 9am to 6pm. If you are booking just a tour for the hot springs the last available start time is at 1:30pm so save availability in the afternoon for individuals doing combo tours.

Checking in at Rio Negro Hot Springs and Mud Bath

After arriving you will first check in at the adventure center to get your wrist band. Once you have your wristband you will drive down the road to the hot springs. Here you will stop by reception and be given a towel to use for the day.

Walking to Rio Negro Hot Springs and Mud Bath

The hike to the hot springs typically lasts around 10 minutes. This hike includes traversing stairs, dirt and gravel trails, and crossing hanging bridges. Along the way you will encounter maps and signs to ensure you reach the hot springs quickly and safely. 

Along the way you will pass by bathrooms and changing rooms to get ready in for the hot springs.

There is only one trail to follow and there are maps and many signs along the way so there is no way to get lost in the process.

Thermal Pools

There are 10 thermal pools to explore at the hot springs. These thermal pools are naturally heated by the geothermal activity of the volcano. These pools vary from 35°C (95°F)-45°C (113°F). It is recommended to only stay in the pools for about 15 minutes at a time and in-between pools to take breaks in the cool river.

Hanging Bridges

There are 3 different hanging bridges that you will cross connecting different sections of the hot springs.

Mud Bath

After relaxing in the thermal pools you can stop by the mud bath and get your volcanic mud masque. This mud has amazing benefits for your skin and after letting it dry you can rinse off in the showers or directly in the river.

Properties of the hot volcanic mud: This volcanic mud mask is an antiseptic, purifying analgesic, detoxifying, anti-inflammatory and regenerating. 

Riverbank Access

Alongside the pools is riverbank access, this is a great place to cool off in-between the different thermal pools and sit in the refreshing running water of Rio Negro.

Waterfall Hike

Straight across from reception is the waterfall hike. This hike takes about 30 minutes and will lead you to 4 different waterfalls varying in size. You can swim in the pools below the waterfalls and if you watch closely you may also spot some moneys in the trees.
